Pen Argyl Area High School students came together on Saturday for the school’s annual Mini-THON®, raising $43,856.31 for Four Diamonds, an organization that conquers childhood cancer by assisting children treated at Penn State Children’s Hospital and their families through superior care, comprehensive support, and innovative research.
This year’s Mini-THON followed a camp-themed event, where each grade competed to earn points for their class throughout the night. Students could gain points by participating in different activities, games, and challenges. The competition kept the energy high as students worked together to represent their grade while raising money for a good cause.
Throughout the event, students participated in a variety of activities that encouraged teamwork and school spirit. From games and competitions to dancing and group activities, the night was full of stuff to do to keep you on your feet. Each class tried to earn as many points as possible in hopes of finishing on top by the end of the night.
Mini-THON also represents months of work leading up to the event. Students spent weeks fundraising, planning activities, and spreading awareness about the cause. Leadership members and volunteers worked together behind the scenes to make sure everything ran smoothly and that the event was enjoyable for everyone who attended.
Jessica Goyette Mini-THON advisor, stated “our kids are awesome, if it wasn't for them there wouldn't be any chance Mini-THON could happen at Pen Argyl.”
One of the biggest moments of the night came at the end, when everyone gathered together for the final total reveal. As the countdown finished and the total of $43,856.31 appeared, the room erupted with cheers and applause. It was an especially exciting time because we beat the all time record by $500. This moment celebrated the hard work of students, staff, and the community who helped make the fundraising possible.
Mini-THON is inspired by Penn State’s THON and raises money for Four Diamonds, which funds childhood cancer research and helps families cover medical expenses that insurance may not pay for. The organization also supports children receiving treatment at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital.
Events like Mini-THON show the strength of the Pen Argyl community. Students, teachers, and volunteers all play an important role in making the night successful. While the event is fun and full of school spirit, it also reminds everyone why they are there, to support kids and families going through difficult battles.
