Former Physical Education Teacher Ryan Peck's Passing is Felt Throughout the Community

Recently, the Pen Argyl community has suffered a great loss. Ryan Peck, beloved teacher and colleague passed away August 15, 2024. Peck was a gym teacher and track coach. Not long ago, he had moved to the elementary school to become their gym teacher. Unfortunately, he passed away before getting the chance to help the younger generations of the district discover their strengths and shape their views on physical activities. Peck had a great influence on past students and his surrounding community.
Kristen Ortwein, business teacher, said, “As teachers, we sometimes need an outlet to make the tough days better, and he was always that person to pull through and make it happen with endless, sometimes obnoxious laughter throughout the day.”
Ortwein is one of many colleagues that grew a close relationship and bond with Peck. His long lasting impact is clearly shown by the various comments from students, colleagues, and other members of the Pen Argyl community. Peck valued everyone’s feelings and was effective in bringing positivity to unfortunate situations.
Shan Smerdon, Wind Gap Middle School Principal said, “What I remember is that every student loved him. They were excited to see him and he was known by everyone.”

Students also think he is wonderful. Angela DiPaolo, student, said, “He was such a genuine person, and never failed to make class fun.” She’s not the only one that thinks so.
Liam Ross, Pen Argyl Area High School student, said, “He was my favorite teacher, and I always looked forward to seeing him in the halls.
Dr. Mike Peck, Director of Technology, and brother of Ryan Peck, said, “My brother had an intense passion for physical education and teaching, which he truly loved. The same values and passions that drove him professionally also guided his personal life. The side of my brother that many in the school community did not see was his deep commitment to helping others and, in particular, his dedication to his own family.”
Peck was the devoted husband of Samantha Peck (Wentz) and the father of his two children, Hailey and Aiden.
Despite his family being his greatest joy, he worked hard to lighten the mood and bring his infectious enegry to anyone around him. Peck’s passing is a prominent example of the unexpected nature of life. The loss of loved ones are hard to handle and he will be missed. It was a privelage to know Ryan Peck.
