On Friday, Oct. 17, the members of the Knights’ Order at Pen Argyl High School volunteered at Plainfield Elementary School to host the Plainfield Carnival. Krista Campbell, Character Ed Advisor, describes the carnival as a fun day for the kids to play and get rewards for being good students with a positive attitude. The kids do fun activities such as an obstacle course, parachute games, coloring, and basketball.
Emma Schollhammer, junior, said “I think it benefits the kids because it shows their hard work is rewarding.” Many of the students participating believe the same, and that’s why they volunteer to help each year.
While this was only the second year Character Education has done this, it’s a very popular event. Fletcher Marsh, senior, “They all had a great time participating in all the activities we had.” The elementary students found the event very exciting, and have begun to look forward to it, as it’s going to be continuing for years to come.
The members of the Knights’ Order focus all the events around good character and talk to the students about being kind, respectful, and responsible. The goal is to encourage positive behavior both in and out of the classroom.
Campbell said that they definitely plan on doing this next year, along with elementary school Principal, Heather Lilly. Lilly agrees that this event benefits the kids greatly, saying, “The students are motivated to show positive behavior throughout the beginning of the school year with the carnival as their reward. They worked to show "on task" behavior and each had to earn six stamps on their ticket in order to earn their way into the carnival.”
