The annual powderpuff football game is a sure sign that Four Diamonds Mini-THON© season is well underway. This year’s event was slated for Sunday, November 2.
Jessica Goyette, Mini-THON advisor, said, “Powderpuff is our second biggest fundraiser each year… We hope to net about $2,000 this year.” Last year, the games raised $2,297.50 and, in 2023, it raised $2,789.40.
For the girls who play each year, however, powderpuff is more than just a fundraiser. Claire Mamana, sophomore, said, “I joined powderpuff because I enjoy the environment of the team and the organization as a whole, and being able to do it for a good cause makes it even more worth it.”
Ella Davis, senior, said, “I’m doing powderpuff because I think it’s something fun! I love watching football, and it’s just enjoyable to hang out and play with friends on the football field.”
In addition to offering girls an opportunity to take to the football field this event provides boys with the opportunity to serve as cheerleaders. This year, the marching band also joined in on the fun and played pep tunes throughout both powderpuff games. Chris Crespo, junior, said, “As a coach you get to make plays, teach the players the basics, and most importantly have fun.”
While powderpuff certainly provided a day full of fun and games, it is important to keep the end goal in mind: raising money...FOR THE KIDS! Mini-THON will take place on Saturday, March 7 at Pen Argyl High School.
Editor's Note: In the print issue of the Green Echo, the Mini-THON date is incorrectly noted as February 7. We apologize for the oversight and have confirmed that Mini-THON will take place on March 7.
