The music department consists of five ensembles: concert band, jazz band, orchestra, chorus, chamber singers. All of which perform at the winter concert. Megan Mcloed Senior says “For the band, we performed a piece called Themes from the Nutcracker Suite Arr. by Clair W. Johnson. After that, we played The Seal Lullaby by Eric Whitacre. In chorus, we sang You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch Arr. by Jeff Funkg.” For the final highlight of the night the chorus preformed a candle lighting ceremony for the first time. The chorus sang Handle's Hallelujah with glowing candles in their hands.
Under the new direction of Smith the different ensembles of the PAHS music department performed at the annual winter concert On December 12. Pen Argyl Area High School opened up a new chapter with the arrival of a new music director Steffani Smith. The PAHS music department has had a long line of accomplishments throughout the years and continues to thrive.
The department is far beyond performing at sporting events. Concerts, competitions, and many community outreach events express the students' love for music. Smith says “We rehearse every day in Block 3 choir, and every other day in Green and White block for full band and full choir rehearsals.” Through all these event the students are able to show their compassion for music.
