After a deafening 1-21 record in the 2024-2025 season, the boy’s basketball team was searching for a positive change. This change came in the form of a new coach, Tyler King.
King, the new coach of the boy’s basketball team, started his career in coaching at Wilson Middle School for a year. He then became the JV head coach at Wilson High School for 5 years, before moving to Emmaus High School for a year as the JV head coach as well.
However, when the offer of a job at Pen Argyl arose, King realized the potential in the program. “I saw a great opportunity here at Pen Argyl to help build this program up to something really special,” said King when asked about why he chose Pen Argyl.
“I love helping young men achieve their dreams and aspirations,” said King on his cause for coaching, “I also love being around the game of basketball.”
“The interview committee felt Coach King was best fit for the position,” Tim Eagan, athletic director, stated. “I wish him the best of luck and am looking forward to the upcoming season.”
Mason Soos, senior basketball player, has been playing basketball since he was in Kindergarten. When asked about Coach King, Soos stated “I feel like the new coach is just what we need to flip the switch to be more successful.”

“We have a really great group of kids this season and I am proud of the progress we have made so far!” King remarked.
King walked into Pen Argyl with set goals for the boys this season, including building a winning culture, making playoffs, bringing back the fun to the program, and having the guys do well on and off the court.
Soos praised Coach King for his expectations for the players. “He brings in a lot of energy and really wants us to be successful on and off the court.”
Blake Hendershot, sophomore, agreed with Soos stating “I love Coach King. He has a lot of energy that I think we were missing last year.”
The boy’s basketball season kicked off with an opening 2-0 record. A 40-33 victory against Notre Dame East Stroudsburg kicked off the weekend for the boys, then a 42-39 victory against Moravian Academy the next day.
“I hope to see as many students as possible at the games and be supportive towards the basketball team,” King said. “I am looking forward to my time here at Pen Argyl. This is now home for me.”
