On November 4 Pen Argyl Area High School's A wing gym was temporarily transformed into an area where students and faculty could be seen donating their blood to. With a strong turn out with approximately 42 members of the Green Knight community were seen donating their blood. 22 units of blood were collected the other 20 were unable to be donated. Principle Nolan Gerencser says “While this was short of our goal, it was not for lack of trying. Even still, this amount of blood could save up to (66) lives!” Miller Keystone is the blood center seen in the PAHS a-wing gym. The blood center gathers and distributes blood to 35 hospitals in eastern Pennsylvania and western New Jersey.

Cole Lobb, Senior, donates blood in PAHS annual blood drive, donates to an essential supply for local hospitals and helping save lives in the community.
Courtney Tolino, English teacher at PAHS says “I've always liked donating blood when I can. It's great to be able to help other people.” Donors were reminded to keep a well kept diet throughout the week, and to stay hydrated. Staying away from fatty or acidic foods are the key. Being rich in iron helps keep the process stay in order from start to fish. When following these steps it’s not just to ensure your safety, but also to the one who is receiving your blood.
Beyond the immediate act of giving it is a way that individuals can share their care in humanity, it provides support to those in need. If your blood matches up with the patient it could give support to things like life injuries, cancer, operations, life-threatening diseases and more. Mason Soon, a senior at PAHS says “Giving blood could go a long way for someone that has struggled.”
