Pen Argyl Area High celebrated the traditional ceremony of the National Honor Society (NHS) on November 20. This ceremony also had an induction for its newest members. NHS was founded in 1921 and recognizes students around the United States for their hard work throughout their high school years. Natasha Chromey, Pen Argyl’s NHS advisor said, “The National Honor Society is a prestigious organization of students who meet the four pillars that the Society follows: Character, Scholarship,Service, and Leadership.”
Members of the National Honor Society are required to keep a high grade point average. This reflects their dedication to their academic performance. Students contributing their time to service projects around the community have great acknowledgement in the NHS ceremony. PAHS is proud to say that 19 new members have reached all of these goals.
Being accepted into the National Honors Society is an accomplishment that not only recognizes the student's current work, but opens many doors to future achievements. Addisyn Sutton, junior, said "Being part of NHS feels like a big accomplishment, and it motivates me to continue growing and giving back to my school and community.”
NHS further encourages students to get involved. Not only does it convey their strengths, it widens their perspectives. Ella Davis, senior, said “Last year I felt very happy! I was happy that myself and all of my friends were accepted!”
